MN and MS Office Click-to-Run

Tuesday, 06/29/2010, 09:32 PM by Anton Molokoedov

Microsoft Office 2010 includes a major new feature – the Click-to-Run technology.

“Click-to-Run is a new software delivery mechanism built by the Office product team. It’s based on core virtualization and streaming technologies from the Microsoft App-V team in Cambridge, MA.”

(More info here - http://blogs.technet.com/b/office2010/archive/2009/11/06/click-to-run-delivering-office-in-the-21st-century.aspx)

Unfortunately, MobileNoter cannot work with OneNote installed this way, at least currently.

If you get an error message like “The application requires that assembly Microsoft.Office.Interop.OneNote Version 12.0.0.0 be installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first.” that means your OneNote is installed with the use of Click-to-run technology.

In this case you need to uninstall it and install the regular version to be able to use MobileNoter.

How do you install one note normally, i.e. not click-to-run. I can't seem to find this information anywhere.

Michael, I have no ability to check it now, but as far as I know, you need to deselect the Click-to-Run option in the beginning of the Office 2010 installation.

No such option exists during the install. Will a version which does run with click-to-run technology become available?

We haven't tested yet to find out if it is possible to make the Click-to-run version download necessary component, so it's hard to tell at the moment.
BTW, Office 2010 which is being sold on discs, contains only normal type of installation. (with which you can use MobileNoter)

Jeremy,

There is no ETA for it yet, but we are thinking of making the Android version in the year's end.
