[Wi-Fi Edition] changing port number

Thursday, 01/07/2010, 11:34 PM by Vitaly Gorn

We pushed an update of the sync client today in which we changed the port number MobileNoter uses.

It was port 80 in the previous version, in the the current version we switched to use port 41982.

Note for existing users:

Application will continue to work on port 80 for those who already paired iPhone with PC. Once you do pairing again, the port will be changed to 41982.

On some machines it may be needed to run additional utility to open port in Windows Firewall. There is an instruction i the sync client, I'm pasting it here as well:

MobileNoter automatically opens a custom port in windows firewall, but on some systems this may not work because of insufficient permissions.

If you have problems pairing iPhone application with your PC, please download and run a utility application as administrator.

Download Link: MobileNoter.PermissionResolver41982.exe

This utility does following with your system:

1) Opens port 41982 in your windows firewall

2) Adds permission to use port 41982 by WCF http service.

Please run this utility as administrator. To do this in Windows Vista or Windows 7, right click on the application in Windows Explorer and select “Run as Administrator” option.

If you have 3rd party firewall software installed, you have to open port 41982 for incoming traffic in it.

I was not able to use MobileNoter during my 7 day trial because of the port 80 issue. Now, I see that issue is fixed and I was able to pair my device, but the 7 day trial is expired so I can't sync anything. Can I please get an extension of the trial period so I have a chance to test the app?

Unfortunately, this is not possible currently. We cannot change trial period length for a specific user of the Wi-Fi edition now. This will be improved in the next versions, but until that we can offer to try the Cloud edition. The Wi-Fi edition differs mostly in the way data is transferred to the device, while the functionality of the iPhone app is almost the same.
