Troubleshooting

If you experience any difficulties with synchronizing MobileNoter Wi-Fi Edition with your PC, read this guide.

Case 1. MN application on iPhone doesn’ t display the necessary PC in the list.

First of all, make sure that your iPhone, iPad and the PC are on the same Wi-Fi Network. If they definitely are, and PC still doesn’ t appear in the list there can possibly be problems with the Apple Bonjour software.
Bonjour is being used in many applications including iTunes. Its function is to discover devices on a local area network.
If you want MobileNoter to detect your PC automatically, you should have Bonjour installed. To do this, follow these links:

You can also install some other applications which are using Bonjour to test if they do connect to PC successfully.

Possible problems in a network that might block Bonjour:

  1. It might be that your PC and iPhone, iPad are in different subnets of the same network. This can prevent them from connecting. This is likely to happen in large corporate networks. While this is not typical for a small private Wi-Fi network.
  2. It is possible that Bonjour traffic is disabled in your network. It happens sometimes in large companies, hotels, etc.. In this case we can do nothing. You have to contact your network administrator.
  3. Problem with a Wi-Fi router. Try to restart it and make sure it has the latest firmware. Also, some settings of a Wi-Fi router can block Bonjour Traffic.

There are some known possible problems with this software, which are described by the Apple support.

If you don't want to/can't use Bonjour, it is also possible to specify your PC name or IP address manually. You need to type it into the field at the top of the screen.

Case 2. PC is shown in the list of services on iPhone, but when a user selects it, app shows "Sorry, synchronization service is not available. Maybe problem with Wi-Fi connection." message.

MobileNoter uses Port 41982 for connection, and firewall can block such connections. MobileNoter automatically opens a custom port in the windows firewall, but on some systems this may not work because of insufficient permissions. If you have problems pairing an iPhone, iPad application with your PC, please download and run a utility application as administrator.

Download Link: MobileNoter PermissionResolver41982.exe

This utility does the following with your system:

  1. Opens port 41982 in your windows firewall
  2. Adds permission to use port 41982 by WCF http service.

If you have 3rd party firewall software installed, you have to open port 41982 for incoming traffic in it.
